$40 million FedEx facility, 720 new jobs for Lake County 6/28/2010

Grayslake, Illinois (Lake County News Sun) -A new $40 million FedEx facility in Grayslake promises to bring more than 720 new jobs to Lake County and $555,456 in annual property tax, and, of course, speedy delivery of packages by the shipping giant.

FedEx announced Friday it will build a 214,000-square-foot distribution station on 40 acres off Route 83, north of Peterson Road. Ground will be broken this summer with the facility scheduled to open in late 2011.

This will be the second FedEx facility in Lake County. The company has a trucking facility at Trumpet Park in Zion which serves northern Illinois and southern Wisconsin.

"We hope this is a harbinger of better times to come for the area economy," said Grayslake Mayor Rhett Taylor, adding he expects FedEx will become a magnet for other companies to locate to the village's 1,000-acre Central Range Industrial Park. He pointed out that Grayslake has the infrastructure ready for the site including water, sewer, roads and zoning.

FedEx made the announcement at a press conference at the Lake County Central Permitting Facility in Libertyville. Lake County Board Chair Suzi Schmidt of Lake Villa called FedEx's decision to locate the facility in the county "a great example of government agencies working together to attract businesses and bring in jobs to the county."
